Me: On the owners manual it says it doesn’t need maintenance until 10k or a year. But on Kia’s website it says the first one is at 5k.
Tech: Yeah, but we like to take precautions, You’d know Mexican roads are rough on cars.
(Translation: If you don’t do this service we’ll make sure your car depreciates at the same pace as the Russian Ruble.)
Me: Sure, what do you do on this service?
Tech: we change your oil, balance out your wheels, read your car with an OBDII port, and check all the fluids.
Me: And you guys charge 100 dollars for that?
Tech: Yes.
Me: Okay, one final question, what viscosity oil do you guys use?
Tech: Its mineral oil.
Me: Mineral oil.
Tech: Yes, mineral oil.

How else would an engine run correctly, specially if it’s a turbo ?

E lectrolytes . It’s what turbos crave.

Me: Okay, one final question, what viscosity oil do you guys use?
“ Shop: We have no way of knowing.” <- Is an actual response from a place I got an oil change from. I asked for 10w-40 but the sticker said 5w-30 when I got it back. I called and asked what they put in it and got that as a response.
Needless to say I do not go there anymore.

Your Kia’s aura is getting cloudy..

In their defense, 5w-30 is basically the xerox of oil viscosity, but they should’ve done as you asked, or at least explain why they didn’t do so.

Yeah.... They also managed to run the hatch of someone's car into the ceiling while I was there so... Maybe not the best

Do not exceed 3,750 miles if it’s conventional, or 5,000 miles if it’s synthetic, AFAIK. Source: I work next to a Kia dealership, and we sell and service a fair amount at my place
. The newest ones might be different but I
doubt it (unless it’s a Stinger). Also make sure to follow intervals especially for spark
plugs and ATF, which some require as often as every 30K.

I think I’m gonna skip it. I’ll just bring it in for the 1 year/10k service in a week or so. The car is 10 months old but it sat still for three.
Pretty much everything they do in the 5k service I already did except changing fluids, I don’t want to be charged twice for simple work.
